Meet Mary

In 2022, Mary made history as the first Democrat to represent Alaska’s at-large district since 1972. With the support of our PAC's get out the vote efforts, she defeated former Governor Sarah Palin not once, but twice—winning by 6.6% in the August special election and by 10% in the November general election. We were proud to be her initial outreach team, serving as the only support she had during the special election.

Mary's victory wasn't just about breaking barriers; it was about representing her community's needs and values in Washington. Her deep understanding of the issues facing Alaskans, particularly in rural and Indigenous communities, makes her an invaluable voice in Congress. She has been a tireless advocate for affordable healthcare, education, and economic opportunities for all Alaskans, regardless of their background or zip code.

Now, as the Republicans aim to unseat her and remove the newly established rank-choice-voting system that played a necessary role in helping Alaskans ensure fairer and more representative election outcomes, it's crucial that we stand by Mary. She embodies the spirit of Alaska and fights tirelessly for the interests of its people.

What was our role?

The GOTV team played a crucial role in Mary’s historic victory. We made 300,000 phone calls. That means we talked to every voter who turned out — twice.

We focused heavily on reaching high-minority-population districts in the northeast, specifically House Districts 37-40, during the critical two weeks of early voting. These areas, home to significant Indigenous communities, often face challenges like limited access to polling places and the devastating effects of rural geography. Our targeted outreach ensured that these often underrepresented voices were heard.

Our efforts were especially vital following Typhoon Merbok, which had ravaged Northwest Alaska, leaving many native communities without essential resources like food and water. Despite these challenges, our PAC's outreach efforts helped mitigate the disaster's impact on voter participation, ensuring residents knew how and where to vote.

Focusing on these key districts not only helped secure Mary’s victory but also demonstrated the effectiveness of Alaska's newly established rank-choice voting system. By ensuring that the voices of these communities were heard, we contributed to a more representative and fair election outcome for all Alaskans.
